Meet the team

Space to Breathe works as a collective of experienced and professional people based all over the UK.

Our team each bring different skills and approaches but each is deeply versed in everyday spirituality and able to bring imaginative and pioneering approaches to any settings.

Andy Co-Director and Founder of Space to Breathe.  He has experience in Youth Work and as a trainer/lecturer (Oxford Brookes, Durham University). Andy founded Space to Breathe after working with the 24-7 Prayer and Church Mission Society movements. He is an expert in Franciscan and Ignatian Spirituality and has an MA in Theology from Oxford Brookes University.  As part of his MA programme he researched issues around contemporary spirituality and wellbeing.

Andy is a qualified Mental Health First Aider with MHFA UK.

Andy lives in Sheffield and has has five beautiful kids.  He’s married to Fi. Andy loves to read, to garden, to bake bread and to watch films and he also loves Cricket. Andy is a performance poet and has produced a book of his work called Cadence Cries.

ben harper

Ben has over 20 years experience of working in and around Sheffield schools in various guises!  He has been a youth worker, senior learning mentor, primary school teacher and the manager of a therapeutic service for children with complex social, emotional and mental health needs. Ben is passionate about ‘helping those who help’ and brings his experience of working in the world of education along with an understanding of what professionals need to function well. Ben balances his work with Space to Breathe alongside teaching two days a week in a Sheffield primary school. In his spare time, he loves an adventure, cooking/eating good food and a box set!

nicky redsell

Nicky is another of our Directors. She loves to innovate and has extensive experience of growing ideas and projects collaboratively. She has been a trainer at Ridley Hall Theological College, alongside providing pastoral and spiritual support for those based there. Much of this work has been through the Centre for Pioneer Learning.

Nicky describes herself as a hopeful planner and dreamer. She has a deep desire to see the potential of others bear fruit. Seeing everyone as valued and unique, Nicky is convinced that each person has the capacity to bring something good and life-giving to their communities and beyond.

Alongside the above, Nicky is a spiritual director, nurturing the growth of others. She is a qualified teacher and musician, who worked for over 20 years in primary schools.

Nicky lives near Cambridge with her husband, Corin. She loves friendship, soup, growing vegetables and is a fan of independent coffee shops.

Steve leach 

Steve is our third Co-Director. He is an innovator and creative and brings those skills to a number of our projects.  He is also resident DJ for Proost events and brings music and flair to everything we do.

jo edwards

Jo Edwards manages all of our social media and communications.  Jo is part of our Sheffield office and lives in the Parsons Cross area of the city. 


Space to Breathe also works with a number of consultants as part of our larger community of practitioners and we call this there Space to Breathe collective.
